The word “faux” means false, and is the technique of making one surface look like another.
A plain sheet rock wall can be made to look like stucco, or texture, but actually feel flat. From a distance it looks like it feels rough! With artistic finishes, a wooden column (or practically any surface for that matter) can be painted to look like marble or stone.
In a broader sense, faux finishing is decorative painting that can mimic many things such as leather, stone, and carvings. It can transform furniture, walls, wooden trim, and floors! With faux painting, we build up many thin layers of paint and glazes to produce unique finishes on almost any surface.
Cost is based upon the project budget, amount of detail, complexity, style and square footage. Decorative wall designs and faux treatments start at a rate of $2.50 per sq. foot for first coat and go up depending on effect and technique you desire.
